Research

Mass communication research centers on how people use the media and media's effects on society. This research tackles a number of leading issues, including digital innovations, advertising effects, crisis communications, and publishing.

As an undergraduate or graduate student, the Hubbard School of Journalism & Mass Communication offers research opportunities with HSJMC faculty members or University-wide faculty.

  • Through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), students pursue a research project with a faculty mentor and get paid.
  • Undergraduate honors students also pursue research and work with faculty members as part of their honors thesis. Learn more about the Honors Program.
  • The Hubbard School also provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to apply for funding to support academic research projects such as Honors thesis and Honors project research. For more information, visit the Undergraduate Research Funds Grant Application page.
