Required Qualifications


  • Work-Study funds required for the 2009-2010 academic year.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Web software experience, either Adobe Contribute or Dreamweaver.

  • Basic Photography Skills and experience using Photoshop.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Experience with feature writing, proofreading, copyediting.

  • Strong computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Significant coursework and/or experience in journalism and mass communication preferred.

  • Advanced photography skills.

  • Video editing and production skills.

  • Design software experience such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator.

Duties/Responsibilities

Support the SJMC Communications Manager with a wide variety of communications and administrative tasks, including:
-- (70%) Work with communications manager to establish Web feature editorial calendar. Serve as reporter/writer for feature stories for the SJMC Web site . Edit text for style, clarity and consistency.
-- (10%) Create photography slideshows, graphics, and/or videos to accompany feature stories.
-- (10%) Other writing assignments depending on SJMC needs. May include magazine feature stories, fund raising materials and Student Services collateral.
-- (5 %) Possible graphic design work, depending on experience and interests.
-- (5%) Perform general administrative duties as needed.
