Graduate Studies

Colleen Kingsbury

I'm returning to school 15 years after receiving my undergraduate degree in communications from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Health Journalism in America is at a critical juncture. Corporations and special interest groups have exponentially increased the amount of health care information pushed out to the public in the last several years. Consumers are bombarded with messages about new prescription medications, health care plans and a seemingly endless stream of information about medical research studies. I am studying Health Journalism to ensure members of the public, policymakers and health professionals receive accurate information so they may make educated decisions.

My husband is also a graduate of UW - Madison and has his MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Our two daughters are in elementary school and our family loves to travel, read, play, swim and spend time with friends and family.

Current Research Interests:

1) Health literacy for patients

2) Health care crisis communications for health care workers and the community

Professional Experience:

I am employed as senior communications consultant at United Hospital, in St. Paul. My responsibilities include internal communications and publications for employees, medical staff members and volunteers, crisis communications, Human Resources communications, media relations and more.
